Is the new Tesla Model Y any good?
Let’s take a quick look at the new Tesla Model Y, with its new fancy lighting front and rear and see if it’s worth buying. Is it a better driving experience? Slightly? But to be honest, the prior model was already so good that minor upgrades is all it needs to continue being the best selling vehicle worldwide (as of 2023).
Quick take? If you must have the latest and greatest version of the car, go ahead and ride the depreciation train. The new model Y does still have a turn signal stalk, but the gear indicator is now selected on the screen. And if you live in a hot climate, the ventilated seats and better sunroof glass may be well-appreciated features for efficiency and comfort.
Exterior and Interior Design:
- Redesigned Lighting: The vehicle features a sleeker front design with a more streamlined nose and a thin light bar across the hood. The rear now boasts a full-width light strip.
- Rear Passenger Touchscreen: A new touchscreen has been added for rear passengers, enhancing entertainment and control options. While it can play videos for passengers, the low screen position may not be ideal for comfortably watching things on a road trip. My suggestion, just get tablets and mount them to the seats with this mount (BASENOR 2025 Upgraded Tesla Model Y Model 3 Model S Model X LR/Plaid Tablet Holder Headrest Tablet Mount, 360° Adjustable Travel Rotation Tesla Car Headrest Stand Cradle Accessories).
Performance and Ride Quality:
- Extended Range: The long-range all-wheel-drive variant offers an extended range of 320 miles (515 km). Early reports say the claimed range is better than previous models.
- Retuned Suspension: The suspension system has been retuned to improve ride comfort and handling.
- Minor fine tune improvements: 20% lower impact noise, 20% quieter wind noise, 22% reduced road noise, and 26% reduced solar reflection inside.
Technology and Safety:
- Faster wifi on board, ultra wide band something to better detect you approaching the car.
- Full Self-Driving (FSD): The new Model Y (launch edition only) includes Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software as a standard feature, which was previously an $8,000 optional add-on. Reuters
- Enhanced Autopilot: A new front-facing camera has been added to enhance Autopilot and Smart Summon capabilities. TopElectricSUV
- Improved Sound System: The audio system has been upgraded to 15 speakers, replacing the previous 13-speaker setup, providing a richer and more immersive audio experience. TopElectricSUV
These updates aim to enhance the driving experience, comfort, and technological capabilities of the Model Y, maintaining Tesla’s competitive edge in the electric vehicle market.
